ASCEND Blue Africa team publishes key principles for natural climate solutions in Nature Sustainability

/

The BAOBAB Blue Africa synthesis team has recently published in Nature Sustainability, outlining six essential principles for achieving natural climate solutions in Africa. The paper addresses a longstanding gap in global climate discourse, where nature-based solutions frequently overlook Africa’s diverse contexts, development priorities, and deeply rooted cultural relationships with the land and biodiversity. By proposing guiding principles grounded in the aspirations of African peoples, the team offers a framework that centres community wellbeing, honours the cultural and ecological fabric of African environments, and supports climate action that strengthens livelihoods and identities across the continent. This publication marks a significant contribution to ensuring that natural climate solutions are both effective and genuinely African-led.
