CLARE at Adaptation Futures 2025
/
CLARE’s presence at Adaptation Futures 2025 will demonstrate what the programme is doing in Africa and Asia-Pacific to support climate adaptation and resilience through equitable co-creation and inclusive approaches.
Adaptation Futures is the world’s premier conference on climate change adaptation, bringing together practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and academics from around the globe. Adaptation Futures 2025 will take place from 13 to 16 October in Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand, hosted by the University of Canterbury Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha with regional Oceania and international partners.
Representatives from across the CLARE research portfolio will be present, demonstrating how the ongoing work of their projects is driving change and strengthening the climate resilience of communities across Asia and Africa.

The CLARE booth at Adaptation Futures
The CLARE booth will spotlight the projects that make up its research portfolio to illustrate how CLARE bridges the gap between research and action by promoting Southern-led, socially inclusive, and sustainable solutions for resilience to climate change and natural hazards.
Those attending Adaptation Futures in person are invited to visit the CLARE booth (Stand #14) in the exhibition hall to connect with the CLARE community and discover highlights from across the programme.
CLARE sessions at Adaptation Futures
CLARE will host three flagship sessions at Adaptation Futures 2025, with a focus on engaging the adaptation community in the impact of its framework approach and evidence that it is working.
- ‘Co-creation’ Labs for Urban Climate Adaptation and Resilience (October 15, 13:45-15:15)
This session will share experiences from CLARE projects, highlighting how ‘Co-Creation’ Lab approaches are supporting urban resilience through the inclusive and transdisciplinary co-development of adaptation solutions.
- Engaging Hearts and Minds through Arts-Based Approaches and Play for Adaptation (October 15, 13:45-15:15)
This session will showcase how CLARE projects use innovative arts-based approaches and games to co-explore lived experiences and climate impacts faced by communities, featuring approaches like photovoice, storytelling, and Play-Doh sculpting.
- Lived Experiences Across Timescales: Weaving Together Insights on Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) (October 14, 20:00-22:00)
This session will engage participants to co-create reflections on common research questions (on lived experiences, linking timescales; and climate resilient development) identified across the CLARE research portfolio.
CLARE community at Adaptation Futures
Across more than 15 sessions, the CLARE community at Adaptation Futures will drive conversations on how to enable socially inclusive and sustainable climate adaptation and resilience. Sessions coordinated by CLARE partners will touch on a wide variety of topics, from heat health, to intersecting vulnerabilities and the adaptation finance gap.
