Adaptation decisions are often hindered by limited climate literacy among actors, fragmented climate information systems, a lack of transparency, competing and contrasting sources, and insufficient alignment between scientific evidence and local decision-making contexts. Advancing understanding from a presumed value chain of linear information delivery to the realities of a value web, in which co‑creation strengthens the usefulness and legitimacy of climate information, has become an urgent need at regional and local scales. 

RI-Africa seeks to understand processes and identify lessons from linking climate information with climate adaptation -starting with CLARE projects in the continent. The project’s goal is to assess and improve the production, communication, and uptake of robust, actionable climate information across diverse African contexts to support effective adaptation and resilience-building. 

RI-Africa is a collaborative initiative operated under the World Climate Research Programme’s (WCRP) Regional Information for Society (RIfS) core project and implemented through the CLARE Programme. This joint initiative has enabled the launch of the RIfS Africa Task Team and aims to reinforce RIfS’s efforts in amplifying the scientific value of climate information in regional policy and decision contexts.
