CLARE to deepen conversation on adaptation and resilience at What Works Climate Solutions Summit

The Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) programme will deepen the dialogue at the upcoming What Works Climate Solutions Summit (WWCS), set to take place 9-12 June 2024, in Berlin. CLARE will advance the conversation on how action-oriented research is supporting inclusive climate change adaptation and resilience.

WWCS is a high-level conference on evidence-based climate policy. This year’s conference will centre on the theme “Synthesizing evidence for effective and equitable climate solutions”. CLARE representatives from the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Canada’s International Development Research Centre, and more than 10 active research projects will host multiple sessions highlighting ongoing work on climate change and amplifying the perspectives of climate and health experts from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

CLARE will host a scientific session on evidence-based climate adaptation action through transdisciplinary, co-created, capacity-focused research and syntheses. This session will showcase the evidence and syntheses being produced by CLARE projects, highlighting examples on migration as adaptation in South Asiapreparing for tropical cyclones across Southern Africaenhancing women’s smallholder farmers’ adaptive capacities in Uganda and advancing capacity for synthesis research across Africa.

Research produced by CLARE is bridging critical gaps between science and action: developing new tools and supporting partner governments, communities, and the private sector to use evidence and innovation to drive effective solutions to the climate challenge, whilst strengthening the capacity of both those carrying out the research and those using the resulting evidence. Through this approach, CLARE epitomizes “what works” for producing, synthesising and catalysing evidence to achieve climate action:research that is carried out – co-created – by transdisciplinary and diverse teams, with practitioners working alongside researchers; that is led from people and institutions in the countries where the research is relevant; and that has strong focus on both capacity of researchers and ‘users’ and supporting tangible action.
