Welcome to the CLARE-ASEAN playlist, featuring videos that showcase the initiative’s vision and its action-oriented research activities across ASEAN cities. Through four place-based research projects spanning seven ASEAN countries and fourteen cities, CLARE-ASEAN is generating evidence and practical solutions to strengthen socially inclusive urban climate adaptation and resilience. Led by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the initiative is headed by Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal (Principal Investigator), with Prof. Mukand Babel, Prof. Paula Banerjee, and Dr. Malay Pramanik serving as Co-Principal Investigators.

The video features Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal, who leads the CLARE-ASEAN initiative at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). He introduces CLARE-ASEAN, an initiative under the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) programme, funded by UK Aid through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and co-funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. The initiative focuses on advancing urban nature-based solutions (NbS), addressing urban heat, financing urban climate solutions, and promoting participatory approaches to strengthen climate adaptation and resilience across ASEAN cities.

The video features the Beyond Housing Types (Be-Housing) project team introducing the project’s objectives, key activities, and expected outcomes. Led by Dr. Dian T. Irawaty, Be-Housing aims to better understand urban heat challenges in urban poor settlements across Jakarta, Surabaya, and Semarang (Indonesia) and Selangor (Malaysia), and identify heat mitigation options for different housing typologies.

The video features the Climate Action and Participatory Experiments (CAPE) project team introducing the project’s objectives, key activities, and expected outcomes. Led by Dr. Kristian Karlo C. Saguin, CAPE aims to advance understanding of grassroots-led urban climate experimentation in Southeast Asia, with a focus on Quezon City (the Philippines) and Can Tho (Viet Nam).

The video features the Heat Adaptation in the Mekong Region (HAMR) project team introducing the project’s objectives, key activities, and expected outcomes. Led by Dr. Jeeranuch Sakkhamduang, HAMR aims to develop evidence-based and inclusive strategies to reduce urban heat risks in Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Hanoi (Viet Nam).

The video features the Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Adaptation and Resilience (NbCLARE) project team introducing the project’s objectives, key activities, and expected outcomes. Led by Dr. Kim N. Irvine, NbCLARE aims to develop practical guidelines for the effective design and implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in selected ASEAN cities, including Bangkok (Thailand), Vientiane (Lao PDR), Ho Chi Minh City (Viet Nam), Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), and Bali (Indonesia).
